History/Language Arts/Reading History We begin our study of early human history with an outdoor timeline to review how time is arranged. Students will have a follow up assignment due on Friday. Students will be reading The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan as our class read aloud and an awesome overview of Greek mythology. Writing Students will be conducting short interviews to learn about classmates. After a series of questions, students will prepare a rough draft paragraph which will be typed into GoogleClassroom on Thursday. Discussion for an autobiographical incident will begin on Friday. Reading Next week, we begin a new English Language Arts and Reading series called StudySync which will be accessed by computer. The program will be all encompassing reading, writing, grammar and spelling. More on that to come. I am asking students to carry a "Book to Read" with them during all academic times. The book should be a book the student is interested in reading and at a level they feel comfortable in reading. It could be a chapter book or any genre of reading such as biography, fantasy or graphic novel. To promote silent sustained reading, I am asking that students read for 30 uninterrupted minutes on 3 different days per week as an ongoing reading assignment. I would ask you to sign the slip to confirm the reading was done. To complete this , a student can read anything you think is appropriate, which includes books, magazines, or even articles online. Reading done for another subject area like science does not count. |
